A few weeks ago I started putting my phone in grayscale. Apparently, the lack of color is less interesting to the brain, and so you end up using your phone less. In my first week, I saw a ~20% reduction in screen time. But a few weeks in, I’m finding my phone is not consistently staying in grayscale and my screen time is ticking back up. Inevitably, someone sends me a picture I want to view in color, I toggle grayscale off (by tapping the side button three times) but then forget to turn grayscale back on.

I know a lot of you toggled on grayscale mode after my email about this and I’m wondering if you’ve had the same experience? I really wanted to believe in this one but it feels too easy to habituate to and forget to use.

Seven classes is a lot. If I were in your position, I’d feel like I barely have enough time to think about working on the job search letting alone executing on it. So my first step would be to do just enough that I start building mental momentum towards it.

For example, set aside 5 minutes a day as you are going through your inboxes to also search for jobs you want to apply for. Some days you might not find anything in that amount of time but if you do that for a couple weeks, you might end up with a short list of jobs you are really excited for. Then you’ve got momentum and it’s going to feel natural to carve out a big chunk of time on a weekend where you sit down and apply to it.
