I feel you. I used to delay and procrastinate on emails for days I didn’t want to deal with because thinking about them stressed me out. I think an inbox-zero strategy helps deal with this. It’s just my policy to respond to every email that comes in a day whether I enjoy the email or not. To this day, I think of email as school homework. It’s just something you need to do, that you won’t enjoy, and it’s getting in the way of the fun stuff.

The funny thing is, even doing inbox-zero, I actually still see the same procrastination behavior but it’s isolated to one day and one inbox session. The emails I really don’t want to respond to are the ones I’ll read, skip over, and then swap to another email that’s easier to deal with. I keep repeating this cycle until the email in question is the only one left in my inbox. It’s not efficient to skim that same email seven times as I avoid it each time but it’s better than letting it linger for days.
