Their background in music and technology has led them to find in AI “an opportunity to create sounds that never existed before.”

In it, artist Trevor Paglen and researcher/artist Kate Crawford strike a wary tone, highlighting the staggering extraction of resources and the hidden biases in the AI ecosystem, while artist Refik Anadol extols generative AI’s ability to help us see reality in novel ways, especially when the technology is left unsupervised.

                Together, these two videos collect some of the myriad points of reflection and inspiration for art in the age of AI. As we grapple with the social, ethical, and political implications of artificial intelligence’s presence in so many facets of our lives, artists often offer unexpected, creative takes on this profound change.
