             Complete privacy is at the heart of the Gyroscope experience, which is why we made the challenging decision to make the service require subscription a few months ago. From the very beginning, we made a commitment that we would never sell data and all our revenue would come directly from our members. This has the huge benefit of aligning our incentives—we only make money and stay in business by making a great app that keeps you 
healthy—though the small downside of requiring people to pay for their own accounts.

            <p class="size-14" lang="x-size-14" style="Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 14px;line-height: 21px;">
             The prevalent wisdom until now has been to give everything away for free, get millions or billions of users, and then figure out how to make money later, generally by advertising and selling data. Everyone is happy, at least for a while. Later you may start to realize you're not the actual customer, and incentives can get misaligned. This leads to the many privacy scandals and health issues people read about.
            </p>
            <p class="size-14" lang="x-size-14" style="Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 14px;line-height: 21px;">
             When starting Gyroscope, we decided privacy was one of our core values and we wanted to take a different path, to create a service where our members 
could
             <em>
              fully trust
             </em>
             that we had their best interests at heart, and that their data was completely safe and not going to be sold away to someone.
            </p>
            <p class="size-14" lang="x-size-14" style="Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 14px;line-height: 21px;">
             To stay true to this vision, we recently discontinued the free version of the app (which showed the last two weeks of reports). Removing the free tier was one of the hardest decisions we had to make since it meant less people could use the things we're building, but ultimately was necessary to stay in business and keep operating with the high quality and privacy our members expect.
            </p>
            <p class="size-14" lang="x-size-14" style="Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 14px;line-height: 21px;">
             Initially we thought the free version would be a good trial period and let people try it before paying. 
However, it ended up being a bad demonstration and many people complained about having a watered-down version that didn't give access to key features like the Health Score or Annual Reports. Without those insights, the app experience doesn't make sense or provide the value we're trying to create. Now we've switched to a one week free trial in the app, and that has been working much better for everyone to preview the experience before paying.
            </p>
            <p class="size-14" lang="x-size-14" style="Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 14px;line-height: 21px;">
             If we gave the app away for free for to everyone, people would be happy for a few months and then we would go out of business—and then nobody would be able to use it. However, if everyone pays a tiny subscription fee, we are able to continue providing exceptional privacy, as well as invest more in new 
features, more integrations, more content and many other improvements that will make your experience much better.

              So if you have found the app useful and want to keep using it, we humbly ask that you upgrade to the membership now.
