                                  💥 What is happening?
                                 </b>
                                 Legislation is moving forward in Congress that would seriously undermine the Endangered Species Act. The "ESA Amendments Act" (HR 1897), sponsored by Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR), would rewrite key portions of the bedrock environmental law, decreasing protections for threatened and endangered wildlife.

                                  🤷🏻‍♀️ Why is this happening?
                                 </b>
                                 The Endangered Species Act is one of the most widely supported environmental laws in America. But despite that, Trump and his allies in Congress want to undermine it or get rid of it completely. They want to hand over our public lands to billionaire CEOs, private developers, and data centers at the expense of sensitive wildlife habitat.
                                 <br/>
                                 <br/>
                                 This anti-wildlife legislation would extend listing timelines while fast-tracking delisting, making it harder for new endangered species to be added and easier for protected species to be taken off. It would also allow more killing of species that are listed as "threatened," limit the ability of federal agencies to manage listed species, and narrow critical habitat designations.

                                 <b>
                                  🚨 What is at stake?
                                 </b>
                                 Since being signed into law by President Nixon in the 1970s, the Endangered Species Act has been a tremendous success. It has helped more than 99 percent of listed species avoid extinction, with many on the road to population recovery. It's also popular across party lines -- in a recent national poll, 85 percent of Americans said they support the implementation of the Endangered Species Act to prevent extinction.
