       Indiana lawmakers are considering
       <strong>
        Senate Bill (SB) 76,
       </strong>
       a bill that would expand immigration enforcement mandates across state and local government and target immigrant Hoosiers.
      </p>

       <strong>
        This bill would:
       </strong>
      </p>
      <ul>
       <li>
        Treat ICE detainer requests like mandatory holds, increasing the risk of wrongful detention.
       </li>
       <li>
        Block public institutions (including colleges) from limiting immigration enforcement in any way, regardless of whether it's carried out by local, state, or federal authorities, with threats of fines if they do.
       </li>
       <li>
        Turn public programs into immigration status data points through new reporting requirements.
       </li>
       <li>
        Put taxpayers on the hook to defend legally risky enforcement actions.
       </li>
       <li>
        Expand workplace enforcement and pressure broader use of error-prone verification systems, fueling discrimination and lost job opportunities for eligible workers.
       </li>
