               If you thought until now that CPS’s budget situation was rocky, buckle up.
              </p>

               Yesterday my colleague Mila covered the district’s long-anticipated FY26 budget presentation to the Board of Education, which has two weeks before it must legally adopt a plan. But board members are divided over the proposal, which does not include a $175 million pension reimbursement to the city, and commits to making that payment only if CPS gets more cash from somewhere else.

               One board member said that not reimbursing the city would make CPS a bad partner. But another board member questioned why the “education mayor” would “shake down” CPS for the payment.
