                        The State Department said in July that it would spend $167,000 in taxpayer money to incinerate the contraceptives even though they are paid for and unexpired. Humanitarian organizations were outraged and offered to buy and distribute the products themselves.

                        that they had been destroyed. That turned out to be untrue. Belgian authorities entered the warehouse and confirmed the contraceptives are still there. Over 70 aid groups have written to Secretary of State Marco Rubio asking him "to ensure lifesaving commodities, including contraception, reach people in need."
