                            Thanks to our Sierra Club community, we submitted nearly 200 comments to the Natural Resources Commission who have determined that a second comment period will be needed along with a second public hearing (Dates TBA). This is encouraging news and you can look forward to receiving further updates from us on how you can help ensure bobcat populations don’t slip into decline due to over trapping.

                            Now, let us draw your attention to another threat to bobcat populations, the Mid States Corridor. If you are unfamiliar with this project, you can learn more by reading

                            In essence, development of the Tier 2 project of the Mid States Corridor will potentially impact bobcat populations by adding additional roadways that cut through the Hoosier National Forest.
                            <br/>
                            <br/>
                            As we learned with recent efforts to rescind the roadless rule in protected forest lands, building roads through forests negatively impacts biodiversity. By dividing habitats and forcing crossings, the Mid-States Corridor will bring more points of contact and the potential for vehicle collisions with wildlife like bobcats, coyotes, deer and foxes.

                            Our Sierra Club community is making a difference while Indiana considers expanding the quota for taking bobcats. Now will you make a difference to protect:

                              55-90 acres of wetlands,

                             <li>
                              327 to 362 acres of Non-Wetland Forests,
                             </li>
                             <li>
                              41 to 82 buildings which includes residential homes,

                               The Mid-States corridor promises to negatively impact the environment and vibrancy of a region home to iconic geological wonders like the Lost River and Orangeville Rise. A region which is home to a 21 mile stretch of an underground river.

That’s why it’s up to us as Hoosiers to protect the tourism economy in Southern Indiana and the bobcats, wetlands and forests we know and love. Nature is the source for all that sustains life.
