                            We had fun catching up with members at the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration this month! We had some wonderful conversations about native plants, Book Club, and the importance of bringing youth into the movement. We celebrated Pride with you in Zionsville that same weekend too. Shout out to Ewa, Sarah, Megan, and Phil for tabling in the intense heat and then racing a storm as we loaded up at the end of the day - all while juggling native plants!

                            We also showed up this month in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors in Fishers marching shoulder to shoulder with over a thousand people at the Hoosier Hospitality Rally. Special thanks to Heartlander Chessa for a tremendous amount of work and fast action getting us involved and Mark who delivered water coolers for our water station, walked 2.5 miles to the March, walked with the marchers 2.5 more miles and then helped reload all of our heavy water coolers!

                            It was a busy month and we weren’t done yet! Just last weekend Heartlands members tabled at Pike Township’s Farmers Market and got to use the stunning rocks that Heartlands member Monica painted for us recently. This past week members showed up at the Indianapolis City-County Building with over a hundred neighbors to push for a data center moratorium.

                            As I type this sentence, Irvington, my neighborhood on the Eastside of Indianapolis, is 82 hours from a critical deadline. It is currently 1:30pm on Tuesday, August 11th. We have until Friday, August 14th at 11:59pm to file our petition for judicial review of the data center proposal that was approved by the Marion County Development Commission (MDC) on July 15th.

                            <br/>
                            When I heard that a data center was proposed for my area, I thought other people would handle it. They’d never let that happen to Irvington, would they? But the proposal got past the first couple of hurdles and I became concerned that a data center within walking distance of my front porch was about to become a real possibility. That’s when I decided it was time to get involved.
