       But first, we'd like to share some reflections on the current moment and our ongoing work to defend civil rights and liberties amidst the Trump administration's extreme, unprecedented, and escalating attacks.

        How it started
       </strong>
       <br/>
       We entered President Trump's second administration clear-eyed about the challenges ahead, with a battle-tested playbook to fight back, and – thanks to supporters like you – resources to put our plans into action.
      </p>
      <p>
       When President Trump began attacking immigrants' rights, LGBTQ equality, free speech, and more – we were ready. In fact, we filed our very first lawsuit against President Trump's attack on birthright citizenship within two hours after he took office, and we've been full steam ahead since.
      </p>
      <p>
       <strong>
        How it's going
       </strong>
       <br/>
       We've filed 164 lawsuits against the Trump administration since Inauguration Day last year and we have succeeded in delaying, diluting, or defeating their agenda in 64% of those cases.
      </p>
      <p>
       After overcoming many obstacles and putting in a lot of hard work, our birthright citizenship case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, where we argued in defense of the 14th Amendment and the right of the Constitution to dictate who is an American citizen – not the president.
      </p>
      <p>
       <strong>
        Where we go from here
       </strong>
       <br/>
       We continue to lead the charge in courts, legislatures, and communities across the country to defend our rights from the Trump administration's extreme attacks. With the 2026 midterm elections fast approaching, we are laser-focused on protecting access to the ballot so every American can have a voice in our democracy.
      </p>

       As we like to say at the ACLU: we don't
       <em>
        get
       </em>
       ready, we
       <em>
        stay
       </em>
       ready.
      </p>
      <p>
       But in all honesty, Fred, continuing these efforts requires an incredible amount of resources, and this community's support has never been more crucial. Our democracy is facing an existential threat, and it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to ensure it prevails.
