                      Before Finimize, I worked at Goldman Sachs as an equity research analyst. I started out covering oil and gas, which meant not just analyzing companies, but also modeling commodities, oil and gas fields, LNG, and the broader global energy market. I later covered chemicals, particularly specialty chemicals, where I came across high-quality businesses that most people wouldn’t know because they mainly sell to other businesses, not directly to consumers.                       I’m mostly a long-term, quality-focused investor, and I’m heavily influenced by Warren Buffett’s approach. Around 80% of my portfolio sits in core long-term holdings. The other 20% is my satellite investments. It’s where I explore newer themes and shorter-term opportunities. I like companies with strong competitive moats, but I also periodically reassess whether those moats are still intact, because advantages that once looked iron-clad can fade.

                      Over time, I’ve also become more open to tech, because it is such a major driver of economic growth and future innovation. So the key question for me is not whether to own tech, but what kind of tech exposure makes sense.

                      My experience across a wide range of roles has taught me that good investment ideas can have different rationales. And that’s evident in the ideas in the Finimize portfolio. Growth stocks (Alphabet, Nebius, Harmonic Drive), value with a catalyst (Korea and its memory stocks), special situations and activism (London Stock Exchange Group and Daikin Industries), and relative value opportunities (SoftBank) all can make attractive opportunities. And they’ve done so: the portfolio’s results show it.

                      But I’ve also learned that it’s important to admit – hopefully rarely – when you’re wrong and sell out of losing positions when the investment thesis changes. Cutting losses and letting winners run isn’t always easy to do – but it really can help you post better investment returns.
