                    Livestreams and comment sections are two forms of content that don't get a ton of attention. The thing is, they're also very impactful on kids.

                   When it comes to livestreaming, Twitch and Kick are stream-focused platforms that kids use that have their own ecosystems and celebrities. For example, iShowSpeed regularly attracts huge crowds when he shows up somewhere and is now

                    impacting international travel
                   </a>
                   . Super long livestreams, like Kai Cenat's

                   , have viewers tuning in for hours at a time.

                   People can also livestream on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook. But there are also apps dedicated to

                   livestreaming, like YouNow, BIGO LIVE, and LiveMe. In my online explorations, I've
                   <em>
                    seen
                   </em>
                   <em>
                    some things
                   </em>
                   , including psychics selling "yes or no" answers to viewers' questions as they stream, people doing everyday activities like sleeping and eating, some doing political rants, and others evading moderators while doing drugs or dancing suggestively.
                  </p>
                  <p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:0">
                  </p>
                  <p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:0">
                   In addition to mature content, there can be other pitfalls of livestreams. Often, the main risk is spending large amounts of time watching

                    low-quality content
                   </a>
                   . Viewers can also spend money to have more attention paid to their comments on the stream, or

                   in the side chat, which is viewable by anyone. In the most extreme cases, incidents of mass violence have been livestreamed, saved, and shared widely before platforms can even catch up. And, unless streamers have enabled post-stream viewing, the livestreams are only in-the-moment, impacting kids—and then gone.

                   By contrast, comment sections are super familiar. However, we don't often think of them as iffy content that kids are viewing and participating in. Comments can

                   is often based on comments. Clearly, comments are subject to the same digital literacy principles as other content, and they can become a hidden influence. 🕵️

                   And these are just two content types we often overlook. Simple "likes" on posts take on huge meaning, memes shape culture, and podcast clips sway popular opinion.
