       <strong>
        Fred, President Trump's attempts to send military troops and heavily-armed federal agents into our communities to intimidate our neighbors and go after our immigrant loved ones are nothing short of outrageous.
       </strong>
      </p>
      <p>
       That's why the ACLU is responding with every tool we have at our disposal. We filed an amicus brief in the state of Illinois' lawsuit against the Trump administration, pushing to keep troops out of Chicago – and we're expecting a ruling any day. Over 400,000 ACLU community members joined us in sending letters to Congress demanding action. And just this week, we brought veterans from across the nation to D.C. to meet with over 40 members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, urging them to defend the Constitution and oppose these dangerous deployments.
      </p>
      <p>
       Now, we're ramping up the pressure on the Senate.
       <a>
        Senator Tammy Duckworth, an Army National Guard combat veteran, has introduced a bill that would make clear that U.S. troops are not the president's personal police force – join us in calling on your Senator to co-sponsor and pass the Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act.

       These deployments threaten to blur the line between the military and law enforcement and put service members in legal and ethical jeopardy. Troops are not trained to police American communities. Federal agents are already endangering our neighbors, chilling dissent, and tearing parents away from their children. The last thing we need is to raise the level of danger and fear even more.
      </p>
      <p>
       We'll be clear: The Trump administration is trying to manufacture emergencies while distracting us from what actually keeps our communities safe: investment in housing, education, mental health care, and jobs. This bill, the Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act, draws a clear line between military and civilian law enforcement, enhances oversight of domestic military operations, and institutes stronger identification requirements for military troops and federal agents when they are in our neighborhoods.
      </p>
      <p>
       Passing this bill would add an important check on the president's abuse of power – so while we keep fighting in court and on Capitol Hill, we're asking every member of our ACLU community to ramp up pressure on the Senate.
      </p>
